Division I Men’s Golf Recruiting – December
As some of you may or may not know – the NCAA adopted a recruiting calendar for Division I Men’s Golf. This calendar enables men’s golf coaches to recruit at certain times of the year so the recruiting “playing field” can be fair and so that early recruiting doesn’t take place.
December can be a tricky month and below are some highlights:
DI Recruiting Calendar Recap:
December 1st-December 22nd is considered a “quiet period”. A quiet period is defined by the NCAA as a period of time when it is permissible to make in-person recruiting contacts ONLY on the member institution’s campus. No in-person, off-campus recruiting or evaluations may take place.
Golf Coaches Association of America- The first day of the GCAA Convention to the conclusion of the convention is considered a “dead period”. A dead period is a period of time when it is not permissible for a coach to make in-person recruiting evaluations or contacts off campus or to allow official or unofficial visits by PSA’s (prospective student athletes) to the college campus.
**The exception to the dead period above allows coaches to evaluate (evaluation period) at the two events that are held in conjunction with the GCAA Convention (Golf Coaches Association of America). These two events are taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada and are being conducted by the AJGA.
December 23rd – January 1st, 2022 – dead period resumes.
January 2nd – recruiting gets back to full swing and the “contact period” begins. This is a time when it is permissible for authorized athletics department staff members (coaches) to make in-person, off-campus recruiting contacts and evaluations.
