Your Guide to the National Letter of Intent as a College Recruit

Here are a few important facts to remember about the National Letter of Intent.

National Signing Day is here! November 9th, 2022 begins the signing window for golfers. Below are a few important facts to remember about the National Letter of Intent.

WHAT IS A NATIONAL LETTER OF INTENT?

The National Letter of Intent is a one year contract that binds the student-athlete to a specific college. All NLI’s include athletic scholarship information being offered to that particular student-athlete for their freshman year. Once the document is signed by all parties, the recruiting process ends for the student-athlete. The NLI protects both the student-athlete and the college from backing out of a scholarship offer.

DO YOU NEED A NATIONAL LETTER OF INTENT TO PLAY COLLEGE GOLF?

No! A National Letter of Intent is a binding document that connects a student-athlete to a college for one year for athletic scholarship money. Not all prospective student-athlete’s are fortunate enough to receive a scholarship offer entering their freshman year, which determines whether an NLI is necessary or not. Don’t be discouraged if you aren’t offered an athletic scholarship entering college, there are many student-athlete’s who earn scholarships during their college career.
