What To Do On Official Visits as a Student-Athlete

Want to be extra prepared for your next official visit?

Are you ready to take an Official Visit to a college campus as a student athlete? Here are some things you can do on all your official visits:

  1. Meet with the coaching staff: During your visit, you will have the opportunity to meet with the coaching staff of the team. They can provide you with more information about the team, the program, and what it’s like to be a student athlete at the college. This is a great time to ask any questions you have and be as open as possible. This is a two-way interview.
  2. Attend practice: If possible, attending a practice will give you the insight on what a day in the life of a student-athlete on this team will be like. You can use this time to ask the current team members questions and get their thoughts on the program as a whole. This will also give you a chance to see the team in action and give you a feel for the level of competition.
  3. Tour the athletic facilities: Take a tour of the athletic facilities, including the locker rooms, weight room, training room, and other important facilities. This will give you a sense of the resources available to student athletes at the college.
  4. Meet with academic advisors: It’s important to balance academics and athletics, so take the opportunity to meet with academic advisors to discuss your academic goals and requirements. They can provide you with more information about the academic programs, course requirements, and academic support services available to student-athletes. They may even lay out the groundwork for what your freshman year courses could look like should you join the team.
  5. Take a campus tour: While your focus may be on the golf program and coaches, it’s important to get a sense of the overall campus and academic environment. Take a campus tour to see the academic buildings, dorms, dining halls, and other facilities. This is your opportunity to make sure campus feels like home to you.

Remember to take notes during your official visits and ask plenty of questions. This will help you remember important details and make an informed decision about whether the college is a good fit for you as a student-athlete. Good luck!
