If you’re an aspiring college athlete, here are some tips to maximize your exposure and increase your chances of being recruited:
Start early: It’s never too early to start thinking about college golf. Begin researching colleges and athletic programs that interest you as early as possible.
Create a highlight reel: Put together a highlight reel showcasing your skills and abilities. The coaches want to see what your swing looks like with different clubs so include multiple shots, especially around your short game.
Reach out to coaches: Don’t wait for coaches to come to you. Reach out to coaches at the colleges you are interested in and express your interest in their program. Send them your highlight reel, your academic transcripts, and your athletic achievements.
Keep your grades up: Academics are just as important as athletics when it comes to being recruited by colleges. Make sure you are keeping your grades up and taking challenging courses. College coaches need to know you can keep up with a strenuous academic load as you’ll be missing lots of class if you are in the traveling squad.
Network: Talk to current college athletes, alumni, and coaches in your sport. Attend events and tournaments where college coaches are present. Build relationships with people who can help you reach your goals.
Remember that being an aspiring college athlete requires hard work, dedication, and persistence. Stay focused on your goals, stay positive, and keep pushing yourself to be the best you can be. Good luck!
