How to Act at Golf Tournaments – Junior Golfer Edition

Are you attracting college golf coaches on the golf course?

Have you ever wondered what college coaches are really looking for when they recruit at golf tournaments? The saying “actions speak louder than words” reigns true in the recruiting world. Not only are college coaches looking at your golf swing and short game wizardry, but they are also watching how you act and respond to certain situations while playing. Here are some tips on how junior golfers should act during tournaments:

  1. Be prompt: Arrive at the tournament venue at least 45 minutes before your tee time. This will give you enough time to warm up, check-in, and get organized before your round. Make sure you arrive to your starting hole 5 minutes before your tee time.
  2. Dress appropriately: Junior golfers should dress appropriately for the tournament. Wear golf attire that is neat, clean, and respectful. Avoid wearing jeans, shorts that are too short, or any other attire that might be considered inappropriate.
  3. Practice good sportsmanship: Junior golfers should practice good sportsmanship throughout the tournament. This includes shaking hands with their playing partners, showing respect for the course, and following the rules of golf.
  4. Be polite and respectful: Junior golfers should be polite and respectful to everyone they encounter during the tournament, including your parents, fellow competitors, tournament officials, and volunteers.
  5. Control your emotions: Golf can be a frustrating game, but it’s important for junior golfers to control their emotions on the course. Avoid throwing or slamming clubs, using profanity, or engaging in any other behavior that might be considered unsportsmanlike.
  6. Keep up your pace of play: Junior golfers should keep up with the pace of play during the tournament. This means being ready to play when it’s their turn, moving quickly between shots, and not slowing down the pace of play for fellow competitors.

Remember, you never know who is watching. Using the above techniques will ensure a smoother round of golf and increase your chances of being seen by college coaches.
