What To Do on Unofficial Visits as a Student-Athlete

Are you about to start making unofficial visits?
Print Friendly, PDF & Email

As a student-athlete, you are entitled to make unofficial visits. Here are some things to help you make the most of your unofficial visits:

  1. Contact the coaching staff: Before your visit, reach out to the coaching staff of the golf team. They may be able to give you a tour of the athletic facilities, talk to you about their program, and answer any questions you have about being a student athlete at the university.
  2. Attend a tournament: If possible, attend a tournament that the team is competing in – this will give you a chance to see them in action and get a feel for the level of competition.
  3. Meet with current student athletes: Try to connect with current student athletes on the team you are interested in joining. They can give you a firsthand account of what it’s like to be a student athlete at the college and answer any questions you have about their experiences.
  4. Take a campus tour: Even though this is an unofficial visit, it’s still important to get a sense of the campus and the academic environment. Take a campus tour to see the academic buildings, dorms, dining halls, and other facilities. You need to see if the university is a good fit for you if you take golf out of the equation!
  5. Attend an admissions information session: If the college offers an admissions information session, attend it to learn more about the academic programs, admission requirements, and financial aid options.

Remember to take notes during your visit and ask plenty of questions. This will help you remember important details and make an informed decision about whether the college is a good fit for you as a student athlete.
